For generations, the Western Idaho Fair has been a cherished summer tradition in the Treasure Valley, opening on the third Friday of August and running for ten days. Each summer, families and visitors from across the region gather to enjoy the Fair’s entertainment, exhibits, competitions, and community traditions.
To continue meeting the evolving needs of fairgoers and families, the Western Idaho Fair will transition to a longer date range beginning in 2027. This change is based on ongoing community feedback and is intended to create a more accessible and flexible Fair experience for the public.
“We consistently hear from families who want the Fair to begin earlier in August, before the back-to-school rush begins,” said Western Idaho Fair Director Bob Batista. “Starting earlier and spreading the Fair across three weekends allows us to offer more opportunities for families to attend while still keeping the Fair experience they know and love.”
Importantly, this change does not affect the 2026 Western Idaho Fair. The 2026 Fair will take place as previously scheduled, from Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 30.
The transition will begin in 2027, when the Fair moves one week earlier on the calendar and introduces a new 3-weekend format. In 2028, the final transition will occur, with the Fair opening date moving to the first Friday of August. The first Friday of August will serve as the opening day of the Fair in the years to follow. The Fair will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays starting in 2027 with the new format.
Western Idaho Fair Dates:
- 2026: Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 30
- 2027: Friday, August 13 through Sunday, August 29
- 2028: Friday, August 4 through Sunday, August 20
