Western Idaho Fair Celebrated 125 Years with a Full Lineup of Entertainment and Exhibits

Western Idaho Fair celebrated its 125th Anniversary August 19 – 28, 2022 at Expo Idaho, with the final weekend being one of the biggest in history. The lineup of activities was full of exhibits, animals, competitions, entertainers, carnival rides, concerts, vendors and food concessionaires.

This year, the Fair had an attendance of 251,497 over the ten-day duration. The most attended dates were:

  • Saturday, August 27 – 37,637 in attendance
  • Friday, August 26 – 35,369 in attendance
  • Saturday, August 20 – 32,741 in attendance

Western Idaho Fair started on Friday, August 19 with CBS2 Day. CBS2 and Western Idaho Fair partnered to allow free entry to the Fair with a non-perishable food donation to the Idaho Foodbank. Western Idaho Fair patrons brought over 10,000 pounds of food, which will provide more than 8,500 meals.

The Fair’s competitive exhibit department was centered on the theme of TRADITION. The Fair saw increases this year of about 5% in both exhibitors and entries with about 2,300 exhibitors and nearly 10,000 entries. The fair paid out about $150,000 in premiums to exhibitors.

The Jr. Market Livestock Sale was the biggest in Western Idaho Fair history. The sale raised over $585,000 for area FFA and 4-H youth participants who sold their locally raised animals.

The 5 nights of grandstand concerts on the ICCU Grandstand Stage saw 46,600 people in attendance. The Billy Currington show on Friday, August 26 was the largest attended concert in Western Idaho Fair history. The show had about 17,800 in attendance.

Patrons enjoyed all the long-standing traditions like Pronto Pups, The Idaho Ice Cream Potato, Butler Carnival and Meet the Animals. Patrons were also entertained with new experiences including the K9 King Dog Show, Axe Women of Maine Show, Octane Additions, and Louie Foxx, the Magician.

Western Idaho Fair is the largest event in Idaho, and an end of summer tradition in the Treasure Valley. The Fair will be back again next August 18 – 27 with a new line-up of entertainers, concerts and exhibit categories. The Fair is produced by Expo Idaho, a self-funded entity of Ada County.
